The Otter Den at Massanutten

Came to the Otter’s Den for a short new years getaway. The hole was very accommodating and as described on VRBO. My wife and I brought our 3 kids, plus 2 of the kids friends. The house slept everyone comfortable and had plenty of games for the kids to be entertained. Home was warm and comfy. Conveniently located to all Massanutten has to offer. Would stay again for sure.

Such a great place. Room for everyone to be together or spend time in their own spaces. We celebrated an early Christmas while my daughter and her family were here from Seattle. We asked if the house would be decorated, and all I can say was WOW! It was gorgeous. We arrived after dark and the only thing lit up was the Christmas tree and it was absolutely breathtaking. I would highly recommend this location. It's convenient, easy to get to and plenty of room to park..

It was the perfect spot! So peaceful and felt like we were in the middle of the woods without being isolated in the middle of the woods! It was clean and such a great place to stay! Loved the screened porch. Would definitely stay again. They forgot to leave trash bags in any of the trash cans but that was an easy grocery run fix!

We had a small snafu after checking in. We didn’t have any trash bags. We contacted the owner who had someone run a couple to us. We had to purchase more trash bags so each can would have one. After that our trip was fabulous. We enjoyed the property. It was close to what we needed. The place was clean and well appointed. My son enjoyed the pool table and we liked that we had access to a pool. (It was difficult to find which one was open as it was in the shoulder season.) We participated in a couple of the classes offered by the report and did an escape room and Luray Caverns. It was definitely a good choice.

The Otter Den Cabin allowed my family to spread out, have plenty of space for family dinner, and make fun memories on vacation. The three bedrooms upstairs, 1 huge bedroom downstairs, and ample square footage made the home feel open and spacious. We enjoyed the large dining room for family meals. The kitchen is simple, but well-appointed for healthy meal preparation.

They were very responsive and accommodating. When things weee re not to their standard they were quick to make it right. For that I am highly recommending this company. They rely on others to ensure their properties are cleaned well but when the housekeeping fell short they did not hesitate to make things right.

We stayed in Otter Den several days over the graduation weekend. The house provided plenty of space for our extended family. We especially loved the dining room which had plenty of seating so we could all eat together. It was a quick and easy 20 minute drive to get into Harrisonburg for graduation activities.

Great space. Bedroom and side for lower level made staying with two families very convenient. Hammock and Swing were a hit with the kids. Wish there was more yard space to run around it. Screened in patio would have been used more if the furniture was more comfortable and there was a small table.
Lights in the dining room are obnoxiously low and hurt your eyes if you try to sit at the table. One chair in the kitchen is bar height and the rest are counter height, we drew straws in the morning to see who would get stuck in the high chair LOL
The couches in the living room were comfortable and the place was spacious. We would definitely recommend. Amenities at the resort and Rec Centers were also great for the kids.

My family of 5 and my sister’s family of 5 greatly enjoyed this cute home at Massanutten for a short week. We knew there wouldn’t be much snow so wanted a good home base in case we couldn’t do all the things we usually do when coming to the mountain each year. We had 6 kids ages 3-9 and the place worked out great! The downstairs rec room was great, it was so nice to not have to pack any toys with us, and the adults could enjoy playing pool in the evenings. The kids and adults played so much chess, it was great. My youngest took a nap on the hammock outside one afternoon and all the kids took turns playing on the swing out towards the back. It was nice to have the dog friendly house as well so we could take our pup with us and enjoy some hiking while we were there. Overall the perfect place for 2 families! Plenty of space to sleep, play, and a great kitchen with all the things! We will definitely be back!

We had a nice time at the cabin. We spent 4 nights with our daughter, son in law and grandsons. There is plenty to do at the resort but the majority of the time was spent at Shenandoah NP which was pretty close. We stay at many VRBO’s, so we always pack extra items. This cabin didn’t have any start up items - laundry detergent, dishwasher or dish detergent. I did let the managing company know when we left. Overall, we had great family time and the weather was outstanding.

This was a great location for my family and our very close friends to be able to visit and catch up. The location is perfect for those looking to take advantage of the Massanutten Resort and the access to the pools was an extra. It was perfect space for all of us including 4 adults, 3 children, and 2 dogs and we took advantage of all of it. On arrival there was a hiccup with a leak from the AC that was on the roof with notable leak in the ceiling. The management company was super responsive and had it all addressed by the evening. The area is nice and quiet and although there are neighbors relatively close-by, we felt like we had a decent amount of privacy. Definitely highly recommend this home and would return again.

The Otter’s Den was a beautiful house and very well-appointed, with everything we needed for a family vacation in Massanutten. I love that it was dog -friendly but also clean , and it had so many special touches and really was great for both kids and teens. There are so many little nooks up relax in and take in the mountain. It was perfect for 6 adults and twin toddlers. Any issues we had they responded quickly and came within the hour. It was very homey and we loved the screened in side porch. The pool was awesome for the kids and the water park was reasonable. We liked that we could bring the boys in the morning then go home for a nap and return for the late afternoon because it is within 5 minutes of the house. There is lots to do on site and within a 30 minute drive.

Great place for our family getaway! Beautiful surroundings. Quiet and peaceful but close to everything. Lots of space to be together. Pool table was a hit! The house was very comfortable with great hangout spaces. The beds were all super comfortable! Very quiet and peaceful.
Unfortunately, the house did not have all of the amenities listed. It did not have shower soap, shampoo or enough kitchen soap and paper products for the length of our stay and number of people.

My family really enjoyed our time here. The house was nice and comfortable. Clean and just the right amount of space for my family. The only issue we ran into was that two of the bedrooms didn’t have a television and the kids WERE NOT happy about that. That seemed odd being that the other two bedrooms did. We didn’t make use of the grill this time around but I’m sure we will in the future as we plan to use this home again. The family game room was absolutely fantastic. Something for all ages to engage in. Overall great cabin for a family with children. We loved it!

Very much loved our stay! It was awesome the place was already decorated for Christmas when we arrived the day before thanksgiving (super cute decor in the house - my family was very impressed). The house was stocked full of fun things to do as a family... Pool table, puzzles and games, and tons of toys for our 2 four-year old's. Place was clean, beds comfortable, nicely equipped kitchen. I would definitely recommend for a stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Otter’s Den! It’s such a lovely cabin! We vacationed with our two adult sons and we had fun in the evenings playing pool in the game room downstairs. My favorite spot was the screened in porch where the view of the woods was so relaxing and enjoyed watching the deer cross the property many times a day. For those with littles, there’s toys galore and a cute play set in the game room. Note that the primary bedroom is downstairs so that may be challenging if you are traveling with younger kids. Wifi and streaming services worked amazingly well considering we were on a mountain. The location is PERFECT. It’s not too far up the mountain so getting out to run to the grocery store, etc. is super easy. It’s tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood that’s perfect for walking. I logged over 125,000 steps in a week! The house is also located in a cul de sac so traffic is minimal. We visited at a very busy time of year for the resort so I didn’t partake in many activities other than tennis and pickle ball but my family used the gym every day and had zero complaints. We had one issue one afternoon that required a call to the host and they responded immediately and couldn’t have been more professional or nicer. I do want to note two things to keep in mind… Dressers are non existent in all but one bedroom. Two have shelving in the closets but the master bedroom had no shelving or dresser so we had to live out of our suitcase. Not a deal breaker but they could easily swap out the large entertainment unit that stores the small TV with a dresser and put the tv on top of it. Also, there is a house under construction around the corner and while we were fortunate that they only worked one day the week we were there, I would have felt differently about our experience if it had been a daily occurrence. Just something to keep in mind. All in all, we had a wonderful stay at The Otter’s Den and highly recommend!

The house was older but updated with everything we needed. We didn’t expect it to be so large. Four good size bedrooms and a great family room space in the basement with a pool table. Would recommend this house for any season. Beautiful property.

Very accommodating and great communication.
I originally booked our trip for the first week of January and my entire family came down with covid. Our host was able to reschedule us for another week without any penalties.
Upon arrival, I realized that I lost the check in code ?
Our host generated a new one for us within minutes and we were able to gain access to the home.
The location is perfect, minutes from the slopes and we had plenty of fun activities to do while we were at the home

Our family enjoyed the beautiful mountain views! The home was so spacious, clean and had a very homey feel! The kitchen had everything you need ! The area was close to everything you need also! Definitely don’t miss the Campfire grill for dinner ( or breakfast buffet) I have never met such friendlier funny hostesses.. those guys were funny..The food was delish.. especially the prime rib sandwich.. but back to the cabin.. so quiet and relaxing with deer walking all through the yard & also the squirrels & birds! Neighbors were very friendly .. very safe neighborhood.

Very clean, very comfortable with plenty of room, good spaces for a relaxed family vacation. We didn't end up using the resort activities much (they were a little too crowded for our covid comfort level), but we loved the location, proximity to both "in town" stuff and Shenandoah Nat'l Park. Minor gripes: - kitchen was good and the grill worked great, but overall cooking utensils were lacking. Ex: only small pans/pots, no good mixing bowls, limited baking pans. If you will be cooking frequently for more than a couple of people, you may need to bring your own cooking gear. - pool table was not our major reason, but was a contributing factor in our pick, but pool balls were nowhere in the house, and when I inquired (via VRBO app), got a response that they would "put in a work order" on the 2nd day we were there, but no follow-up the rest of the trip (6 more days). This was not a huge problem, as we had plenty to do, but it made the pool table pointless. I would hope that more important issues would have been resolved faster. We had no other issues with the property during the stay. Overall, just should note that the property is managed by the resort management company, so definitely had a different feel than when I have booked VRBO properties managed by individuals. That said, the property was a really lovely space and very clean and well maintained, and we enjoyed our stay a lot.

It was an awesome time. You didn't really need to leave the area if you didn't want to. Everything was right there for whatever activity you wanted to do. The house was small but yet large enough for 3 families to move around and not be right onto of each other. We all had a great time and would love to return again one day.
